Till Next Bill

A survival narrative game based on testimonies of young people who dealt with over-indebtedness. This game, awarded in Swiss and internationally, is a tool encouraging young people to understand the risk of over-indebtedness and how to find help when they need it.

The project, directed by the Etat de Vaud, is the result of a report and an analysis of the over-indebtedness prevention program “Parlons Cash”. This report highlighted young people’s growing demand for interactivity in prevention campaigns. They were therefore involved in the conception of the game from the start of the project. The scenarios were inspired with testimonials from young people who have experience over-indebtedness. Others were integrated to the test groups, the expert groups and participated in the production of content.

Since its release, the game was played over 17’000 times in Switzerland only and won three awards. Above all, it was the emotions felt while playing the game that left a lasting impression on the audience. “This game is the story of my life! Because I live on my own and I have to take care of everything. Some situations really touch me because… every month, it’s exactly like that for me!” said for example Lise, 23 years. Emotions reinforce experiences and help retain the right reflexes more effectively.

Impact of the project

The game is intended for 15-25 years old. A pedagogical guide is added to the game, so it can be easily used in classrooms. Conceived for mobile phones, Till Next Bill can also be played on computers and tablets.

Learning reinforced by emotions

By engaging with a story through game mechanics, players can feel tension, surprise and other emotions that help create fertile ground for receiving the key messages delivered by the experience.

The player voluntarily contributes to data collection through the game

We integrated surveys into the game scenarios, which allow us to collect qualitative anonymous data. In exchange for answering a few questions, players receive an in-game bonus as an incent.

A hook mini-game for events

A hook mini-game was developed so Till Next Bill could be easily promoted during events and festivals.
