Hand puppets, Paul Klee
A short movie in virtual reality 12 times awared, giving life to Paul Klee's hand puppets to relate the story of their famous creator. It is the fourth episode of the Unframed series dedicated to the discovery of the masterpieces of Swiss painters.
This episode is born out of the will to take on our own the production of the Unframed series, which was until then produced by Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS). So it’s in co-production with Gregory Catella from SSR SRG and Yves Demay from RTS, and with the support of Loterie Romande and the Cinéforom foundation, that we chose to reproduce Paul Klee’s hand puppet.
Thanks to the Paul Klee Zentrum, we had the incredible opportunity to take pictures of the real puppets from every angle so we could then reproduce them with the highest fidelity and at scale. We also greatly benefited from their scientific help, by proof-reading our script, giving us corrections and tips. They also came out with a lot of anecdotes unknown to most and now figuring in the movie.
At last, in keepinf with Paul Klee’s love of puppet theatres, Martin Charrière animated every puppet by hand directly into the virtual reality, which gives a unique “hand-crafted” feeling to the short movie.
