Frÿburg 1606

Frÿburg 1606

An one of a kind immersive experience combining audio, video and augmented reality to visit Fribourg from the 17th century.

This project is born in the mind of Fribourg Tourisme. They wanted to set up a tour of the city that would take advantage from the new technologies and the augmented reality (AR) imposed itself quickly as the most efficient solution.

We were then selected thanks to our previous collaborations with the Swiss company Vidinoti on the augmented-reality trail around the Lake of Gruyère, the trail NoviLé, for which we produced a lot of digital content.

For the Frybourg 1606 application, we produced contents in augmented reality, notably historical reconstitutions of long lost buildings, restoration of original colours and custom 3D animations.

Augmented reality in the service of heritage

Reveal lost buildings

Augmented reality allows to superpose digital images to the reality. With the help of this technology, we were able to recreate the Jacquemart Tower demolished a long time ago and to replace it at the exact place where it was. Visitors get a real glimpse of the city as it was in the past. The reconstitution was based on historical documents and specialists advices.

Restore original colours

We often picture the Middle age as dark times lacking coulours, but we couldn’t be further away from the truth. We think of it that way because colours on the buildings are now long gone. But thanks to the research of historians, we can now restore them with the help of augmented reality, thus giving a more accurate depiction of the city of Fribourg in the 17th century.
