CoronaQuest

A game to prepare children for coming back to school after COVID. A tool to understand barrier gestures and reduce virus transmission in school. This game was recommended by WHO.

In 2020, after 8 weeks of confinement in Switzerland, students were getting ready to go back to school. This project aimed at helping them prepare and accompany them while learning barrier gestures and social mesures against COVID-19 in natural and funny way. Teachers also used the game to tackle questions about mental health in those difficult times.

As the situation was exceptional, the project had to be created in less than 3 weeks while doing home-office. Thanks to a close relationship with the client and huge effort from our devs and artists, we were able to provide this tool to teachers and students the first day of school.

Since its release, this serious game has met with success beyond expectations, with more than 500’000 games played in more than 90 countries. It was regularly updated to follow changes in practices and recommandations during the pandemic.

CoronaQuest has been studied and recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in a case study. It received several awards and was translated in 12 languages.

A few cards from the game

Over 60 cards were designed and hand-drawn. They represent the helping grown-ups, barrier gestures, fears and questions or virus symptoms.

Project Impact

CoronaQuest was recommeded by WHO and more than 500’000 games have been played in 90 countries! Several institutions contacted us to translate the game in their language, which contributed to make it available in 12 languages. A pedagogical guide is included in the game to facilitate its use in classrooms.

Emphasis on the fun of the game

When we address to children, it is essential to give them information in a simple and natural way, and to make them take an active part in the process. We have conceived this game so the information were integrated in the gameplay mechanics and thus instinctively understood, by testing and observing the effects of the cards against the COVID.
